What are you going to tell Kelpi about her home? Should she be making
reservations at the Marine Mammal Center? Choose from the following projects to show Kelpi what the future might hold. 1. Construct a model of the kelp forest showing the ecosystem during a normal year and a comparison model showing what may happen during El Nino. Develop a system of labels to show what elements remain the same and which change. 2. Prepare a chart that shows how El Nino moves within the ocean. 3. Describe an animal which is dependent upon a healthy kelp forest for survival. Give 5 reasons why it cannot survive if the ecosystem changes. 4. Create a picture dictionary of 5 animals found in the kelp forest. Include information about what the animal eats, where it lives and how it may be effected by El Nino. 5. Construct a zootrope. Make a movie sequence which shows how a particular animal feeds in the kelp forest. 6. Create a set of trading cards for kelp forest inhabitants. On one side of the card draw or glue a picture of the animal. On the other side list the animal's vital statistics. Include information on how that animal will be changed by El Nino. |
